The Newly Established IEEE Student Branch at the National Taipei University of Technology
Two years ago, I obtained my bachelor’s degree and was admitted to the master's program of the National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) just like other students. As a graduate student, I focused on my studies and research. The photos of the opening ceremony of the IEEE Student Branch at the NTUT are presented in Figs. 1(a) - 1(d).

Joining the Student Branch allows me to obtain IEEE literature with a better price, and understand the global research trend. It helps me to obtain useful information and problem-solving methods for my own research as well as relevant knowledge. Before we joined the Student Branch, data collecting was not as easy and we did not understand what other countries had researched. Therefore, it was easy to find problem-solving method, and my research did not go smoothly. However, I find doing research quite easy after joining the Student Branch.
The IEEE Student Branch also provides research grants that help our research substantially. Moreover, there are many other research grants offered by the variously companies which we call apply.
Besides, the Student Branch broadens our perspectives as well. For example, the IEEE Life Fellow, Professor Silvano Donati from Italy has an academic visit with us. Professor Donati visited our laboratory, advised us how to solve the problems that we had encountered in the experiments, and shared his researches with us (as shown in Figs. 2(a) - 2(d)). All these are attributed to the IEEE Student Branch.

The IEEE Student Branch not only helps research but also provides a cooperation platform for students and companies that allows students to understand the problems and the actual operations in practice before they enter the industry Such experiences are enormously valuable for us. On the other hand, we provide the most advanced research results to companies, helping them solve their problems and understand the newest trend around the world. For example, we hosted across academia and industry lecture regarding fiber-optic CATV and fiber-optic communication on April 1, 2015. Professor Chien-Hong Yeh from the Department of Photonics at Feng Chia University gave us a speech regarding the future integration techniques of broadband 5G and optical network from which we learned what the future trend and the market demand will be (as presented in Figs. 3(a) - 3(c)). Another example is our visit to Digital Sky CATV corporation on April 2, 2015, in which we provided some technical counseling on fiber-optic CATV. Figs. 4 (a) - 4(c) are the photos with regard to the activities of our visit to Digital Sky CATV corporation.
The IEEE Student Branch not only helps us advance in our research but also provides grants to encourage research. Join us in the IEEE Student Branch at the NTUT and work together with us on the research road.
